The Bible: God’s Instruction Booklet - Connor Schultz
Hebrews 4:12-13 “12 For the word of God is alive and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart. 13 Nothing in all creation is hidden from God’s sight. Everything is uncovered and laid bare before the eyes of him to whom we must give account.”
Don’t be fooled by the title of this blog post. Despite the apparent out-datedness of the text, God’s Word is still versatile in today’s culture. It can be characterized in a number of different ways- not just an “instruction booklet”, but also an “account of God’s actions” or even “the story of Love”. The point is, we, as Christians, should never take for granted the opportunity we have under the truth of the Gospel, that we have such ready and simple access to the Bible on a daily basis.
In theology class this week, students took the time to call out several lies that we tell ourselves in today’s world. We took lies such as “I’m not good enough” or “sin isn’t that bad” and addressed them head-on with Scripture. This interaction with the text, that we can pursue with little complication, is such an amazing gift from God, and quite practically, intended to be exploited for the furtherance of God’s Kingdom.
To quote Larry Fransisco, a Cottonwood youth leader and living legend, “The Bible stands for Basic Instructions Before Leaving Earth”, and frankly, there’s a lot more truth to that than we believers often give credit. This week, let’s make an effort to open the word despite the “business” of our schedules. You might be surprised by what happens!
