GoLocal - Delancy Walker
Recently our ministry had the opportunity to serve the Allen/McKinney/Dallas area in a week long mission trip. Often when the words “mission trip” are uttered our minds immediately travel to third world countries, but as our pastors remind us, our life is a continual mission trip. God has placed us wherever we are today for the reason of glorifying Him. We are either choosing to live out the mission He has charged us with or pursuing the world. In youth we have been going through a sermon series talking about how we are saved to be on mission, and this mission trip was a way to practically apply the knowledge we have been given.
At GoLocal we spent everyday learning theology in the morning to equip us for the day, then moved on to working with kids in the neighborhoods and doing service projects (like working at widows houses, evangelizing at the mall and working at the Children’s Hunger Fund) and would end with night worship services. Through our ministers at GoLocal we were reminded that the Spirit is sent to us to work through us. It was a beautiful reminder that His presence will go with us and He will give us rest (Exodus 33:14). Additionally it was more comforting to know that God had and has it all in His control. In knowing that it had pushed us to remind us that we must constantly rely upon God because we are useless in doing the work of God without God himself, as John 6:63 says “It is the Spirit who gives life; the flesh is of no help at all”. Whenever we evangelized, we realized we needed God’s perfect love to cast out fear, and when we were serving we realized we needed peace and rest from the Lord. We all need God, His love, His peace, His joy, His hope, we just need Him. Knowing that has caused me to love and obey Him all the more and I hope it encourages you to love and obey Him too.
“The hope of a secure and livable world lies with disciplined nonconformists who are dedicated to justice, peace and brotherhood.”- Martin Luther King Jr. We have to be the nonconformists, we must step out for the mission He has for us: to be fruitful and multiply by making disciples. Today, have you chosen to take a part in the mission?
