Trading the Eternal for the Momentary - Chase Durham
In Genesis 12, the Lord called a man named Abram to leave everything and follow Him. The Lord promised Abram that he would become a mighty nation and that the world would be blessed through him. It was God's plan to bring the Messiah through the children of Abraham. In his old age, Abraham has a son named Isaac. Isaac then has two sons named Jacob and Esau. Esau in a moment of hunger traded his birthright and inheritance for a bowl of soup. Now, jacob is the one through whom the Messiah would come. Esau traded what was eternal and greater for something momentary - soup. So often we trade what is eternal and greater for something lesser from the world. We become near sighted and choose something that will temporarily satisfy our fleshly appetite instead of seek the eternal satisfaction in the Lord.
