Love Others like Family - Logan Call
“Do not rebuke an older man but encourage him as you would a father, younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, younger women as sisters, in all purity.”
I found this interesting because I know Christ commands us to “love one another as I have loved you” (John 15:12) and that “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” However, this particular verse in 1 Timothy shows us directly how we should love each other. This verse particularly struck me because, it calls us to treat others as family and love them and encourage them the same as you would your brother or mother. This is so contradictory to modern culture where we are told to be independent and fight for our own desires, which is quite averse to this call to treat all of those in our life as family.
God encourages us not to find reasons to push people away and find fault in them (as we naturally do) but to rather receive them with an open heart and love them just as you would your family. This unconditional love is the love that originates in God because as 1 John 4:8 says, “Anyone who does not love does not know God, because God is love.”
