Participating in the Relay - Jake Heenehan
In 1 Kings 2, David is old and about to die. He takes his son Solomon and gives him his last father-son talk. He summarizes all he has learned and imparts wisdom to his son. In Matthew 28:16-20, we see Jesus gathering his disciples on a mountain in Galilee to do the same thing. But instead of imparting to them wise words he gives them a commission. He tells them “Make disciples!” For his entire earthly ministry, Jesus has been making disciples, and now he is passing his baton to his disciples. To fulfill the command of making disciples of all nations, Jesus tells them that his disciples have to go out, and as they go out they need to baptize and teach people the Gospel. We, along with the disciples, have the same commission: Make disciples! And as we go, we need to baptize and teach others the Gospel.
